January 2013 Newsletter – Garrydoolis School

Congratulations to the children who qualified once again for the 7- a side football final in October. Despite their best efforts they were defeated in the final by Cloverfield They had the usual party afterwards and on Friday 23rd November, John Delaney, CEO of FAI, was kind enough to spare us a few minutes of his time to present the children with medals for reaching their third successive final. A special presentation was made to Kyran O’Donnell for earning a place on the East Limerick schools team. Mr. Delaney then invited all children to attend an International match in the Aviva stadium in 2013. The date and fixture is to be decided. Fifty tickets will be made available to us to attend.

Two plays, “Jesus’ Birthday Party” and “Rats” were performed in the school before the Christmas holidays and we were delighted to see so any parents, grandparents and past pupils come along and enjoy the performances. We are always grateful to parents who help out with costumes and props, Pat and Audrey O’Dwyer who provide us with a backdrop to the sets and all the sponsors who donate raffle prizes.

On 16th January the children are going to the popular Music in the Classroom concert which is being staged this year in U.L.

The senior classes have begun preparations for a Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland Peace Proms concert which will take place on 27th January in UL. The Food Dudes programme is proving to be a success in the school with the children making a great effort to include fruit and vegetables in their lunches every day.

Sean Herbert finished his number of coaching sessions for the present and we hope he will be able to resume with hurling after Easter.

Congratulations and well done to the Parents Association for a hugely successful recycling initiative which took place on Saturday 16th November. They also participated in the Christmas Fair in Pallasgreen by hosting a Cake sale.

We are indebted to Fergal Grace and Pat Cronin who run the table quiz every year with such professionalism. This year the amount raised was €1025. I wish to express my gratitude to all the sponsors, Tom and Mary O’Donnell and everybody who help make this annual event so successful.

The children who are preparing for First penance, First Holy communion and Confirmation are currently participating in family masses in Templebraden Church. They are being supported by their classmates as they do so.
