Spring 2012 Newsletter – Garrydoolis School

Two Christmas Plays, “It’s a Cracker” and “A Miracle at Christmas” were performed by the children in the School on 21st and 22nd December. The attendance of parents, family members and grandparents was fantastic and we hope they enjoyed the shows as much as the children enjoyed performing.

Congratulations to the Senior pupils for receiving an award from Irish Aid for a project they did on Caring for our Planet-Feeding the World.

Well done to the fifth and sixth class pupils who represented the school in the St. Ailbe’s Science Quiz in Tipperary on 9th February. Thanks to the parents who took them and stayed with them during the quiz.

On Wednesday 15th February the Senior pupils went on  a Treasure Hunt and Outdoor Adventure Day to the Glen of Aherlow and environs.Congratulations to Ali Davern who won the overall prize for answering the most questions on the Trails. Jeremy-John Looby found the most interesting stone. Ali Davern gave the closest estimate of the height of the barrier at the end of the trail and gave the best description of the water scene.. Jessica Dillon and Jack Mulcahy found the longest pine cones.  Well done to all. A special thanks to Gary Savage who accompanied us on our outing.

On Friday 24th February, the senior pupils are travelling to Hospital to see the Transition year production, Back to the Eighties. Four pupils did the entrance exam was on 28th January. We will  be watching out for past pupils on stage!

The focus on P.E. this term is on Gymnastics and Movement. We hope to display some photos of their achievements on the mats in the near future.

Congratulations to Susan and David for overseeing the setting up of a Parents Association. We wish the Parents Association every success  and look forward to working with the people involved.
