October 2022 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

As we come to the end of the first half term, I would like to thank you all for your support of all that we do here in the school. It has certainly been a jam-packed nine weeks!

We have completed both Friendship and Maths Weeks and enjoyed our autumn planting. Senior pupils have taken part in the Cumann na mBunscoil seven- a-side football tournament, the “Stories through the Ages” event in Pallasgreen and have also travelled to see an excellent performance of “Blue Suede Shoes” in St Ailbe’s.

Our Crazy Hair Sponsored Walk was a great success yesterday and was enjoyed by all. We extend thanks to our families for your support of our fundraiser which has so far brought in 632 euros towards our trip to see “Peter Pan” in UCH prior to Christmas.

Pupils have designed beautiful Christmas cards and the final orders for these were submitted on Tuesday. Additionally, all pupils have taken part in St. Anthony’s colouring/ poetry competition, whilst seniors took part in the St Ailbe’s Credit Union art competition.

We send congratulations to Nicole O’Sullivan who came third in her age group in the St. Ailbe’s competition. We are also very proud of Emma Carroll who will represent our school on the schools’ east football team.

Well done Nicole! Winner in St. Ailbe’s Art Competition. Nicole is pictured with Pat and John from St Ailbe’s and her teacher, Ms. Shannon

Sincere thanks to all families who supported our recent clothes recycling event. Just under one thousand kg of clothing was collected! That is most definitely our best collection in recent times. I look forward to reporting on funds raised as soon as I know.

We are currently collecting Shoeboxes if any family would like to make a donation. These may be returned after Halloween break also.

Senior pupils continue to prepare for the Peace Proms which will take place in U.L. in January. Our inclusion in this event will allow pupils the opportunity to perform with a symphony orchestra under the leadership of a professional conductor. Pupils will travel to and from the show by bus with teachers, but should parents wish to attend, tickets go on presale at 10am on Tuesday 1st November on www.peaceproms.com. Our unique presales code is SUN29LIM7PM.

On our return in November, we look forward to commencing our “One Hundred and Fifty Years” project and also to celebrating Science Week. Based on Christmas show surveys returned so far, there seems to be great enthusiasm regarding our Christmas show… something else to look forward to!

Our Student Council has a wonderful day of fun organised for tomorrow including a spooky games room, Halloween pinatas, a fashion show and a Halloween hunt, as well as a movie and treats. All pupils are invited to wear their Halloween costumes. School will close at the usual time tomorrow for Halloween break and we will reopen on Monday 7th November.

Wishing all families a most enjoyable break!

Regards,

Heidi Jordan
